How To Deal With Heavy Rain in Regulating Tanks?

When the regulating tank encounters heavy rain, the following countermeasures can be taken:

 

Preparation before heavy rain

 

1. Lower the water level of the regulating tank: empty part of the regulating pond volume in advance to increase the regulating capacity of the regulating pond so that it can receive more rainwater or sewage mixture during heavy rain to avoid sewage overflow. For example, based on past experience and weather forecast information, the water level of the regulating pond can be lowered by about 1/3 to 1/2 24-48 hours before the heavy rain.

2. Check equipment and facilities: comprehensively check the regulating pond and related equipment, such as water pumps, agitators, liquid level gauges, valves, etc., to ensure that they are in good operating condition. At the same time, ensure that electrical equipment is fault-free and well grounded to avoid electrical failures or safety accidents caused by heavy rain.

3. Clean up debris: clean up debris, garbage and sediments around the regulating pond in time to prevent them from being washed into the regulating pond by heavy rain, affecting the normal operation and water quality of the regulating pond. Especially for regulating ponds with water inlet grilles, clean up the debris on the grilles to ensure smooth water inlet.

Increase backup power supply: To prevent power outages caused by heavy rain, backup power supplies such as generators should be equipped and ensure that they can be put into use at any time to ensure that the equipment in the regulating pool can still operate normally during power outages and maintain the normal water level and water quality control of the regulating pool.

 

Countermeasures during heavy rain

 

1. Real-time monitoring of water level and water quality: Arrange special personnel to closely monitor the water level changes and water quality of the regulating pool, such as pH value, COD, ammonia nitrogen and other indicators, so as to timely grasp the impact of heavy rain on the regulating pool and provide a basis for taking corresponding measures. Once an abnormal situation is found, such as a sharp rise in water level or serious deterioration of water quality, emergency measures should be taken immediately.

2. Adjust the inlet flow: According to the volume and water level of the regulating pool, reasonably control the inlet flow to avoid excessive water level in the regulating pool. The inlet volume can be matched with the regulating capacity of the regulating pool by adjusting the inlet valve, the speed of the pump or starting the standby pump to prevent sewage overflow. If the inlet volume exceeds the processing capacity of the regulating pool, consider appropriately reducing the inlet or temporarily closing the inlet valve.

3. Strengthen water quality regulation: Since heavy rain can change the water quality of the regulating pool, such as diluting the sewage concentration and bringing in a large amount of impurities, it is necessary to strengthen water quality regulation. The mixing equipment in the regulating tank can be used to evenly mix the water to avoid stratification or local deterioration of the water quality. At the same time, according to the water quality, appropriate chemicals can be added to improve the water quality, such as coagulants, oxidants, etc., to remove suspended matter, organic matter and pollutants in the water and improve the water quality.

4. Prevent rainwater backflow: If the water inlet of the regulating tank is lower than the ground, measures should be taken to prevent rainwater from backflowing into the regulating tank, such as setting check valves, sandbags and other water-blocking facilities at the water inlet to prevent rainwater from mixing with sewage and causing greater impact on the regulating tank.

Strengthen on-site inspections: Increase the frequency of inspections of the regulating tank and surrounding areas to check for leaks, overflows, equipment failures and other problems, promptly discover and deal with potential safety hazards, and ensure the safe and stable operation of the regulating tank.

 

Restoration work after heavy rain

 

1. Clean up debris and sediment in the pool: After heavy rain, a large amount of debris and sediment, such as mud, garbage, etc., may accumulate in the regulating pool, which needs to be cleaned up in time. Personnel can be organized to use tools or mechanical equipment to salvage the debris in the pool, and clean up and transport the sediment to restore the normal volume and function of the regulating pool.

2. Water quality monitoring and treatment: Continue to monitor the water quality of the regulating pool and evaluate the impact of heavy rain on water quality. According to the water quality monitoring results, take corresponding treatment measures, such as further water quality regulation, biological treatment, chemical treatment, etc., to restore the water quality of the regulating pool to the normal range and ensure the normal operation of the subsequent sewage treatment system.

3. Equipment inspection and maintenance: Carry out comprehensive inspection and maintenance of the equipment in the regulating pool, repair or replace equipment parts damaged in the heavy rain, and ensure the normal operation of the equipment. At the same time, clean, lubricate, and prevent corrosion of the equipment to extend the service life of the equipment.
